Paris Olympics: An Unforgettable Adventure
Hey there, fellow sports enthusiasts! Let me take you on a thrilling journey through my recent escapade at the Paris 2024 Olympics. We were originally due to arrive in Paris in the morning from Nice, however in true chaotic fashion, our flight was cancelled, meaning that we had to quickly make our way back across the city of Nice to get a train from Nice Ville Station to Paris. It was a real race against time, echoing the current Olympic atmosphere that swept the whole of France. Once on the train, the stress and worry soon left my mind, as I was finally sure that I would be able to make my first Olympic session in the evening. However, little did I know that my heart rate would soon be back at an all time high, as a whirlwind of excitement and record-breaking moments awaited me.
Thursday: A Dazzling Start
After a picturesque train ride, I set foot in Paris just in time for the evening session of Athletics. The air buzzed with anticipation as I secured a prime spot to witness a variety of events including the Heptathlon shotput, the Heptathlon 200m, the Men’s javelin final, the Men’s 200m final and the Women’s long jump final. Let me tell you, the atmosphere was nothing short of electric β cheers, gasps, and the occasional roar filled the stadium, igniting the competitive spirit in each spectator. I felt particularly fortunate to witness a huge moment in the Men’s 200m history, as Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo ran his way to victory, winning the first and only gold medal for the amazing country of Botswana. The atmosphere was electric as the stadium proudly cheered on the amazing sprinter as he rung the bell, signifying that he is a new olympic champion. The excitement didn’t stop there as the Women’s long jump took place shortly after and was filled with incredible moments. USA’s Tara Davis-Woodhall gave us all a show by ensuring that we were engaging with her and cheering her on before each jump, and she eventually went on to win gold! In true Tara fashion, she continued her showmanship by falling backwards into the sand and making sand angels, much to the amusement of the crowd.
Before I came to Paris to witness the Olympics first hand, I was an avid Olympics watcher on TV with a variety of events never failing to make me cry each night. That emotion was only heightened as I sat in the stand watching all of these incredible and inspiring athletes. Cue the Men’s javelin final… Arshad Nadeem made a monstrous throw during the event, which turned out to be an Olympic record!! I will never forget the amazement that echoed through the crowd as we witnessed the incredible and inspiring throw, before quickly being informed that Arshad Nadeem had just created a new Olympic record. The amazement soon turned into a loud eruption of cheers and a standing ovation as Arshad looked into the crowd with both pride and disbelief. Arshad’s bewildered expression is a memory that I will not forget in a hurry, and a reminder of how much these games mean to each and every athlete. I felt very fortunate to witness such an incredible Athletics session with so many special moments. I knew that I would be emotional witnessing all the raw emotions of the athletes up close, but I wasn’t prepared for how inspired I would feel, and that was only day 1 of my Olympic sessions!
Friday: Record-breaking Thrills
Friday was a day for the books! I immersed myself in the world of track cycling, where I was fortunate enough to witness an astounding 5 Olympic records and 2 world records being shattered right before my eyes. The sheer grit and determination displayed by the athletes was awe-inspiring, leaving the crowd in a collective state of amazement and jubilation. I particularly enjoyed the track cycling events because unlike the athletics stadium that holds up to 80,000 spectators, the velodrome has a capacity of a respectable 5000 spectators making it a much more intimate affair and ensuring that any seat within the arena has a good view. It was also particularly exciting, as there was a lot of support for Team GB and each GB athlete put on an incredible show for all of the eager spectators. It would be wrong of me to mention the crowd support without paying homage to the incredible support that the French supporters showed their home athletes. Everytime a French cyclist made their way to the track, the noise was beyond anything that I have ever experienced before. There was a mixture of drums, whistles and horns as every single person in the velodrome, showed their mass respect for each French athlete. It really was an incredible sight to witness and showcased true camaraderie between everybody in the stadium which is what the Olympic spirit is all about.
As the track cycling drew to a close and the sun began to set, we made our way to behold the majestic sight of the Olympic cauldron rising against the evening sky. A symbolic moment that encapsulated the essence of the Games β unity, passion, and the pursuit of excellence. To cap off the night, a leisurely stroll to the Louvre added a touch of cultural charm to an already unforgettable day.

Saturday: The Ultimate Endurance
Saturday dawned with a different energy as I geared up to watch the Men’s marathon, a test of stamina and willpower like no other. The streets of Paris transformed into a spirited racecourse, lined with eager spectators cheering on the fearless runners as they pushed their limits to reach the finish line. It was a true showcase of perseverance and sportsmanship, leaving an unforgettable memory for all who bore witness. I was lucky enough to have a seat located at the finish line and was able to cheer along all the incredible athletes as they excitedly and exhaustedly pushed themselves across the line. One of the main reasons that we chose to watch the Men’s marathon was to witness the legendary Eliud Kipchoge in action. Unfortunately the race got the better of Eliud and we witnessed him hobbling up to the line, still showing amazing grit and sportsmanship to the end. Eliud soon announced his retirement after he entered our area, so whilst it was not the expected way to see this legend, I feel very grateful that I was able to see Eliud in the flesh and show him massive support one last time. Eliud will always be one of the GOATs of marathon running and has inspired a whole generation to start running (including me), which I will always be grateful for. This was just another example of how much these incredible athletes push themselves during the Olympics and I truly believe that everybody should go to see an Olympics at least once, to fully understand how incredible and inspiring the athletes are.
In Conclusion
My whirlwind experience at the Paris 2024 Olympics was a rollercoaster of emotions, from heart-pounding excitement to heartfelt admiration for the athletes and their dedication. The camaraderie, the passion, and the spirit of sportsmanship resonated in every corner of the Games, creating unforgettable moments that I will forever hold dear.
As I bid goodbye to the memorable Paris 2024 Olympic Games, I carry with me a heightened appreciation for the power of sports to unite, inspire, and captivate. Until next time, Paris β thank you for the memories, the thrills, and the undeniable magic of the Olympics!
So, dear readers, if you ever get the chance to witness the Olympics firsthand, seize it with open arms β for it promises an adventure of a lifetime filled with exhilarating moments and memories that will last a lifetime.
