The summer of 2025 will sneak up on us quickly, and deciding where to go on holiday can be a tricky decision that requires a lot of thought and planning. From choosing the right destination to ensuring you make the most of your time abroad, the process can feel overwhelming. This is why I have created a list of my favourite European Summer destinations for 2025. Each spot offers something unique, from stunning coastlines to rich cultures, guaranteeing you’ll have an amazing holiday in the sun. Let’s dive in!
Split, Croatia: A Perfect Blend of Culture and Coastline
When people think of Croatia, Dubrovnik usually comes to mind, but my personal favourite city is Split. This large coastal gem offers an incredible blend of history, nature, and modern comforts. Split’s charm lies in its ability to cater to all types of travellers. Whether you’re a history buff wanting to explore Diocletian’s Palace or a nature lover eager to visit nearby Krka National Park, there’s something for everyone.
A particular highlight of my time in Split was the opportunity to island hop across the sparkling Adriatic Sea. Take a boat trip to the nearby islands of Korčula, Hvar, or Vis and experience secluded beaches and charming, unspoiled villages. It’s hard not to mention the incredible food that is in store for you! Split and Korčula are home to some of the best seafood that I’ve ever had. Fresh, delicious, and perfect for a summer evening by the sea. When it comes to summer destinations, Split is an ideal choice for both relaxation and adventure.
Madeira, Portugal: A Summer Destination for Nature Lovers
Madeira is a Portuguese island that truly feels like a slice of paradise. The island of Madeira itself is bursting with natural beauty, from lush forests to dramatic cliffs that plunge into the Atlantic Ocean. Funchal, the island’s capital, is a vibrant city packed with history, culture, and charm. The golden statue of Cristiano Ronaldo may grab attention, but the true treasures are the stunning botanical gardens, full of exotic plants and flowers.
A popular tourist attraction is taking a toboggan ride down the streets from Monte to Funchal: a thrilling and unique way to see the island! If you’re up for exploring further afield, excursions to banana plantations or a dip in the natural lava rock pools are must-dos. For nature lovers, Madeira offers endless opportunities for hikes, whale-watching, or simply relaxing in beautiful surroundings. Madeira has made this list due to being one of the most beautiful places that I have ever visited. Therefore, making it a perfect Summer destination for 2025 ☀️
Greece: Island Hopping Heaven
Greece is a dream destination for summer, and for good reason, there’s an island for every type of traveller. While I haven’t yet explored all of Greece, there are so many incredible islands in Greece that I cannot wait to explore! I have spent a lot of time researching the best Greek islands and let me tell you, it is not an easy task. Each of the Greek islands are magical in their own way and I cannot wait to add more of these destinations to my list of visited Greek islands. Below are some of my island recommendations:

- Santorini: You’ve seen the photos—those iconic blue domes and whitewashed buildings perched on cliffs. Santorini is a picturesque paradise. A trip here will guarantee an epic insta feed with the most stunning pictures.
- Kefalonia: Affordable yet stunning, Kefalonia offers a great mix of nightlife and natural beauty. From lively bars to serene beaches, this island has it all.
- Kos: If you’re looking for a fun night out, Kos delivers with its vibrant nightlife and bustling beaches.
- Corfu: My top destination for 2025! I’m drawn to Corfu for its blend of relaxing beaches and lively towns. The island’s Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, offering plenty of history to soak up between sunbathing sessions. There are also incredible boat trips to be taken when in Corfu, not to mention that Sarandë, Albania is a short ferry trip away!
No matter which Greek island you choose, you’re bound to find stunning scenery, delicious food, and a warm welcome from the friendly locals.
Montenegro: A Hidden Gem of the Adriatic
Montenegro is a treasure in itself and I can assure you that wherever you visit, you are sure to be mesmerised by the stunning scenery and generous locals. We stayed in a small fishing town on Montenegro’s coast and explored some bigger towns that were not far from where we were staying. I would highly recommend Budva and Tivat as well as exploring some of the smaller towns along the bay of Kotor, such as Perast. I still to this day believe that Montenegro is the most beautiful country that I have visited and I genuinely believe that everybody should visit Montenegro to understand how truly stunning the country is.
If you’re looking for a summer destination that combines stunning scenery with fewer crowds, Montenegro is the place to be. This small yet captivating country is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever visited. From the glistening waters of the Bay of Kotor to the ancient walls of Budva, Montenegro is full of breathtaking views at every turn.
Barcelona, Spain: A City That Has it All for Summer Destinations
Barcelona has been a fan favourite for years, and it’s easy to see why. The city is a vibrant mix of culture, history, and beach life. Whether you’re wandering through the winding streets of the Gothic Quarter or relaxing with a glass of sangria by the sea, Barcelona offers something for every traveller. And for the football fans out there, a visit to Camp Nou, Europe’s largest football stadium, is a must.
But Barcelona isn’t just about football and architecture—it’s also a foodie’s paradise. I still dream about the paella and fresh seafood I enjoyed there! For those looking to explore beyond the city, I highly recommend a day trip to Montserrat. This mountain retreat offers breathtaking views and is a peaceful contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city. Barcelona ticks all the boxes for an unforgettable summer holiday, making it a great addition to your 2025 summer holiday planning list.
