Marrakesh excursion: Quad biking & camel riding

This excursion is one of the best that I have yet had the pleasure of participating in. Starting with a quad biking session in the desert before riding a camel through the stunning scenery, a 4×4 jeep ride through tough terrain to witness a beautiful sunset and finally ending with a dinner fit for a king whilst being accompanied by moroccan dancers and belly dancers. This trip truly is a once in a lifetime experience!

We booked this excursion at our hotel during our stay in Marrakesh. The original tour was advertised as a quad biking session, followed by a camel ride through sunset, finishing with a moroccan dinner with entertainment. This tour excited us all and we were soon counting down the hours before we could take part in a trip of the lifetime. The day soon arrived and we excitedly made our way to the moroccan desert by minibus, all the while contemplating what our evening ahead would have in store for us.

When we arrived we were given a warm, welcome greeting before being told what the evening would involve. We were then given a choice of different coloured headscarves to wear to protect our hair and mouths from the dust that was sure to entail. The staff wrapped these for us in their special way to ensure that each of us were protected from the dust which was a kind touch to the already exciting tour. Once we were all appropriately dressed, we made our way to the immaculately lined up quad bikes. We were given a 45 minute guided tour of the desert which took us through rocky terrain to witness the desert from the most beautiful angles.

Once the quad biking was over and everybody was back safe and sound, we were guided to our camels for what was to be one of my most memorable moments yet! As we mounted the camels, nothing could prepare us for the fear that we would each feel as the camels stood, lifting us higher than any of us could have imagined! Once we had mounted and ready to start our journey, we were each introduced to our camel travel companions and all those around us, with mine and my boyfriend’s camel being called Rasheed. The camel ride was amazing beyond belief taking us through the beautiful desert which gave us the opportunity to fully appreciate the stunning scenery that we may have missed whilst racing through on our quad bikes. There were many wonderful photo opportunities whilst on the camels and Rasheed was particularly photogenic, practising many different poses whilst we took pictures of him after the ride. It was an experience that I will not forget in a hurry.

After the camel ride, we were all excitedly exchanging stories and trying to calm ourselves from the excitement before dinner, when one of the tour guides came over to offer us a 4×4 jeep ride to witness the incredible sunset. We all jumped at the chance and excitedly piled into the extremely muddy and well ridden 4×4. This was an experience like no other. Each of us continuously jumped out of our seats as the driver made his way through the tough, rocky and bumpy terrain. Our driver was fantastic as he fought his way through the rocky terrain for us to make our way to all the best spots to witness the sunset from different angles as well as encouraging each of us to pose for some spectacular pictures. This was an extremely special part of the trip and the views that we were lucky enough to witness will forever be in my memory.

After the extremely exciting yet equally terrifying 4×4 trip, we made our way into the tent for our Moroccan meal. The tent was beautifully decorated in traditional, Moroccan decor and we were serenaded by two performers who encouraged us all to join them in dancing around the room and wearing their wonderful hats. The vibe was incredible and joyous with everybody celebrating the day that we’ve previously experienced. The food was plentiful with an array of starters covered in delicious Moroccan sauces as well as a traditional Moroccan soup which was particularly flavoursome. When the main course arrived, our tastebuds were soaring as the smell of the mildly spicy chicken tajine filled the tent. Everything about the food and service was astonishing and as we were reaching the end of the main course, a local bellydancer took to the floor where each individual person had the pleasure to learn bellydancing whilst waiting for our deserts to arrive.

This excursion is one that won’t be forgotten in a hurry. Everything about this trip was perfectly delivered and the day was my best excursion yet! See TripAdvisor’s top Marrakesh excursions here.
