Marrakesh: Six unforgettable days
Marrakesh has always been somewhere that I have been particularly intrigued by. The Moroccan culture fascinates me and the scenery is astonishing beyond words. Therefore, when the opportunity arose to visit this beautiful city, I jumped at the chance and patiently waited for the day to arrive when I could finally say that I was travelling to Africa.

When we arrived at Marrakesh airport, it was clear to see that security is taken extremely seriously within the city. Before you’re allowed to leave the airport to explore the fascinating city, there are four different security checks that have to be done, ranging from stamp checks in your passport, to luggage checks before exiting the facility. Although the checks were an initial pain, the fact that there is such high security made me feel especially safe.
Leaving the airport for our hotel was an eye opening experience. The roads in Marrakesh seem to be a free-for-all with motorbikes speeding past horse carriages and squeezing into tiny gaps between large coaches and narrow bridges. The pedestrians confidently make their way boldly across the road, carefully dodging buses, bikes and cars along the way. I have never witnessed a city like this, with policeman stood in the centre of the roads to complete their duties. As soon as I witnessed the mayhem of the roads, I knew that Marrakesh was more fascinating than I could ever imagine.
Every single person that we made contact with was extremely friendly and welcoming and made our experience of the city one to remember. Once we arrived at our hotel, the Moroccan culture oozed out of everywhere we turned, with staff teaching Moroccan dances and songs to eager guests. I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about the Moroccan culture and of course not to mention the wonderful and equally delicious food that we were lucky enough to eat throughout our stay. Morocco’s main delicacy is tajine which is a type of stew that is made in beautiful, traditional dishes and served using a variety of different meats. If you are lucky enough to taste this wonderful dish, I can guarantee that you will be craving tajine once you have left Morocco.
During our stay in this wonderful city, we partook in many activities such as exploring the medinas and souks and travelling to the Moroccan desert where we were lucky enough to do an extremely exciting excursion which involved quad biking and camel riding. As well as these activities, we threw ourselves head first into the various different cultural activities around our hotel including a moroccan cooking class and a salsa class.
Overall, the Moroccan culture is fascinating and I would highly recommend visiting the beautiful city of Marrakesh if you have not done so already. You are guaranteed to see some of the most beautiful scenery you have ever laid eyes on as well as leaving with fantastic memories that will last a lifetime.
