Use Fethiye as a Base to Explore More of the Coast
One thing I loved about being based near Fethiye was how easy it was to explore the surrounding area. Ölüdeniz, with its famous Blue Lagoon, is just a short drive away and makes for an unforgettable beach day. There are also options for paragliding, hiking, or simply soaking up the coastal views.
But even with all those day trips available, there’s something special about staying in Fethiye itself. It feels more authentic, less polished, and far more relaxed than the more popular resort towns nearby.
A Town That Grows on You
There’s also something quite special about the blend of cultures and eras here. You can sip Turkish tea in a modern café one minute, then walk ten minutes and find yourself in front of ancient ruins or a mosque that has stood for centuries. The mix of old and new gives Fethiye its own unique personality; One that feels lived-in, welcoming, and quietly proud of its heritage.
In the end, I left Fethiye with the sense that I’d only scratched the surface. There’s something satisfying about discovering a place that hasn’t been overhyped or overly curated for tourists.
