Prague – Points of interest
Prague is an extremely vibrant city with lots of unique and intriguing things to see and do within the fascinating city. One of my favourite things about Prague was the wonderful, quirky bars that you would soon come across whilst taking a walk around the main part of the town. Whether you’re being served a cocktail out of a small, wooden crib or being served by waiters wearing masks, you’re sure to find some entertainment in the Prague nightlife.
Away from the nightlife of Prague, there are also many fantastic tourist spots and points of interest to make sure you experience during your time in the beautiful city. Below I have made a list of some of my personal recommendations:
Charles Bridge
Charles Bridge is the main bridge that links the two sides of Prague together and I would highly recommend taking a walk along this bridge at night time as it truly comes alive at night! Here you will find entertainers along with various different people selling items such as their art work and other items that they have made. Along the bridge, there are also beautiful sculptures with lots of history behind each one. You will find many people rubbing certain sculptures to keep up with an old tradition, in the hope that they will receive fortune and happiness. Charles Bridge truly is a special area.
John Lennon Wall + pub
This was one of my favourite parts of Prague. The John Lennon wall is filled with various types of graffiti including some that are linked with the late Beatle. This includes pictures of the Beatles legend along with some of his best quotes and lyrics. Not far from the John Lennon wall is the John Lennon Pub which is an extremely vibrant and quaint pub with a big atmosphere. Here we enjoyed a couple of drinks whilst listening to Beatles songs, the place is even decorated with lots of pictures of the Beatles along with fitting decor such as a telephone box toilet. i would highly recommend this place particularly for Beatles fans.
Prague Castle
Although we didn’t actually enter Prague castle, the castle itself looked beautiful and the main point of interest for me was the square outside which was full of markets and we were even lucky enough to get their just in time to see the changing of the guards. This was a particularly atmospheric area.
Astronomical clock
The astronomical clock is the world’s oldest working clock and is very impressive to watch when the hour strikes. You are sure to see people gathered around for the clock to begins it’s show just before the change of the hour and I would recommend watching at least one, as it’s a fantastic show to watch particularly from a clock that was built in the 1400’s.
Chocotopia
Chocotopia is a chocolate store that can be found within the main square of Prague, this was without a doubt, the best chocolate that I have ever eaten and they even have workshops where you can make your own chocolate to keep afterwards. This seemed to be a particular highlight with children.
Petřín gardens
Petřín is a beautiful area with lots of tourists heading to the tower where you can see some astonishing views. However, my favourite part of our trip around Petřín was the beautiful gardens and scenery that you see amongst your walk. We walked from the centre of town, which is quite some walk and should be noted that the majority of the walk is uphill. However, the beautiful wildlife and scenic views that you experience definitely make the journey worth it.
There truly is something for everyone within Prague and you are sure to enjoy your time exploring the wonderful city. I would also highly recommend visiting some traditional bars and restaurants to experience the incredible Czech delicacy’s. Some of my favourite meals that I have ever eaten were within Prague and I cannot wait to revisit the incredible and friendly city.
