Kilimanjaro

Climbing Kilimanjaro – The Journey Begins!

I’m thrilled to share some exciting news with you – in February 2025, I will be embarking on an incredible journey to climb Mount Kilimanjaro!

For those who may not be familiar, Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa, standing tall at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet). It’s a challenge that has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember, and after years of dreaming and planning, it’s finally happening! As this is such a challenging task, it felt right to raise money for charity in the process. On that note, I am proud to announce that I will be raising money for Fowlers Syndrome UK. Fowlers syndrome is a condition that affects the urinary tract in women and is a condition that lacks research, resulting in a lot of women being misdiagnosed. Please see quote below taken from Fowlers Syndrome UK:

Fowler’s Syndrome UK is a registered charity (1196903) that works to raise awareness, promote education and increase research into Fowler’s Syndrome, with the aim of reducing diagnosis time and improving care. As the first charity in the world to exclusively support those with Fowler’s Syndrome or CUIR, FSUK intends to provide resources and support to the Fowler’s Syndrome community.

Currently resources for women with Fowler’s Syndrome are scarce, with the majority of specialists based in limited centres, where there is a significant wait for referral.

FSUK intends to change this landscape, working together with the top urologists, neurologists and other healthcare professionals in the country, as well as with patient experts, our Fowler’s Foxes.

Why Kilimanjaro?

Kilimanjaro isn’t just any mountain. It’s a symbol of adventure, endurance, and the power of the human spirit. The idea of standing on the Roof of Africa, witnessing the sunrise from above the clouds, is both humbling and exhilarating. This climb represents more than just a physical challenge; it’s a personal mission to push my limits, explore new horizons, and immerse myself in one of the most awe-inspiring landscapes on the planet whilst raising money for a charity that is close to my heart.

Fundraising for Kilimanjaro

Fowlers Syndrome is a charity that is particularly close to my heart and any donation, big or small, will go towards shedding light and producing more research into a disease that is not heavily researched. My fundraising page can be found here, I really appreciate all donations❤️

Preparing for the Climb

The journey to Kilimanjaro is not one to be taken lightly. I am starting my training regimen, focusing on building stamina, strength, and mental resilience. I’ll be hiking local trails, doing some weight training, and doing everything I can to prepare for the high altitudes and unpredictable weather that Kilimanjaro is known for.

But this journey isn’t just about physical preparation. It’s also about educating myself on the rich culture and history of the region, understanding the environmental significance of Kilimanjaro, and ensuring that I approach this climb with respect and responsibility.

What this means for the Blog

As I prepare for this adventure, I’ll be sharing every step of the journey with you right here on the blog. From training updates to packing tips, route planning to mental preparation, you’ll get an inside look at what it takes to tackle one of the world’s most iconic mountains.

And of course, once I’m on the mountain, I’ll be documenting the climb itself – the highs and lows, the breathtaking scenery, and the incredible sense of accomplishment that comes with reaching the summit (hopefully!).
